“Love will be the victor in this struggle” 
Words I heard and loved at the Black Lives Matter rally in Newport yesterday

When I worked for the co-chair of the Whitney Museum in New York City I got to see a lot of beautiful art by American artists like Kara Walker and Glenn Ligon. I was fortunate enough to be in the presence of and champion an incredible collector that saw the importance of supporting black artists. And although I thought I was educating myself by learning more about African American art in the art world, I am struggling to even name any others I learned of at that time. Or black curators, or black gallery owners or black museum directors. So I can go ahead and admit I don’t know a single thing about African American culture or art and I certainly can’t relate to the struggle of being a person of color in a racist country. What I can commit to doing is clean up my own house and continue to dismantle hate around me with love. I will continue to engage with and support organizations that support the black community, especially here in Newport where I feel like I can make a difference both through my business and personally. And as I educate myself, I will share as I do with everything I learn, in the way I hope to be effective and inspiring to you. My business and the work I do has always been a place of love and unity and I stand united with the Black Lives Matter movement in hope that love is the victor I know it can be in this struggle.

Last week I spent some time putting together orders with new artists and artisans and working on new paintings to fill the shop. I am now taking in-person appointments daily and I am hopeful to open with set hours later in the month. I cannot wait to share with you all the new things I have coming for summer. In the meantime I am wrapping up installations with Hammetts Hotel in the next two weeks and I am so happy to share that they will open their doors for business June 26. I hope you get the opportunity to see the hotel, all of the art and the revolving art gallery exhibitions - which I can't wait to share with you the details for the inaugural show so soon! Thank you for the amazing online orders - it has been so fun to see all of you at the back door for pickups and I feel closer now to reopening with the recent in person appointments and how wonderfully they have been! Thank you!!
