The Newport Flower Show Opening Reception

Digest = me + a possible glass of wine + reflection on the previous weeks ongoings and a glimpse into future happenings. You're Welcome

Tuesday this week officially marks the first day of summer, but this weekend was a pretty brilliant indication of what’s to come with houseguests and dinner parties and coastal drives to some of our favorite spots for picnics and antiquing. The gallery was wonderfully busy and I have quite of a bit of painting to get to with commissions and new art for the gallery.

Friday was the start of the Newport Bermuda Race from Castle Hill. Congratulations to Argo and 11th Hour Racing for arriving to Bermuda in 1st and 2nd place in record time. The Newport Flower Show never disappoints and this year the opening reception was beaming with energy and gilded with a spectacular sunset after a wild thunderstorm.

I'm so excited for this coming Friday for the annual fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Club Newport because Michael’s mother, Patti Rakolta, is being honored. From the Boys & Girls Club Newport invite: A champion of the Club for over 15 years, Patti served on the Club’s Board of Directors and was one of the founders of the NYR event, now in its 8th year. When she assumed Board chair in 2013 and the financial challenges that had caused the Club to list, Patti envisioned returning the Club to its roots as the leading youth guidance agency in the community and led efforts to “right-size” the organization and bring it to sound fiscal health. The event is sold out, but to contribute to The Newport Boys & Girls Club you can follow this link.

Save the date! Thursday, July 7 is the opening reception of Ride The Wave, an eight woman group show I am thrilled to be a part of this summer. If you’re going to be in Westport or southern CT that evening please join us for an opening reception for so much gorgeous work. Drop me a note at hello@kristencoates.net if you would like to attend.

I’ll leave you this evening with this sweet image of a painting I did earlier this year installed in its new home. You may have noticed me in the shop more these days - along with the lovely Mary Lou, you must meet her if you haven’t already! - and I am loving the connection between my studio, the gallery and where my paintings end up and with whom. As I share more work with other galleries like George Billis or home stores like Masterson Made, I am gravitating toward being in my own store more and a part of the process. There is really something lovely about seeing it all come full circle. Thank you for that and hopefully I'll see you in the gallery this summer !

Happy weekend from our family to yours!
XO Kristen
