REBECCA ADLER
ARTIST

While scrolling through art about a year ago, I landed upon some wonderfully colorful female figures. I was so happy to see the busts that you are now familiar with at the gallery by Rebecca Adler and I just had to reach out to her. We have been working together since and I recently told her each of her works that comes to the gallery I am torn - add it to the gallery or bring it home? I haven't picked out just one yet, but I'm excited to share with you her recent collection of busts now available in the gallery and for you to get to know Rebecca a bit too here.

ONE WHERE DO YOU LIVE AND WHAT IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP TO NEWPORT?I live in Malvern, PA, a suburb outside of Philly in an area known as the Main Line. I’ve never been to Newport, but it’s on my post-quarantine wish list!

TWO WHAT ARE THREE THINGS YOU CANNOT TRAVEL WITHOUT? A good book, my iPad for sketching and mini tubes of Aquaphor.

THREE WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT THIS YEAR?
I had a lot of great commissions this year, but I’m most proud that a painting I donated to raise money for Black Lives Matter organizations sold for more than five times the starting bid!

FOUR TELL ME SOMETHING PEOPLE WOULD BE SURPRISED TO HEAR ABOUT YOU?
I married the boy across the street.

FIVE WHAT IS IT THAT BRINGS YOU THE MOST INSPIRATION?
The female form in everything from vintage photography to ancient art. I seek out images that illuminate the way a body bends and curves. Color is the other force in my creative process. I love how it can transform an outfit, a room, a mood. When color and form come together on the easel it makes my heart sing.

SIX WHAT IS Something positive that came out of Covid lockdown for you as a creative?
My son and I started baking once a week. We’ve tried everything from apple pie to eclairs to meringues. I don’t enjoy cooking, so it felt like a strange hobby at first, but I realized that it’s another way for me to practice mindfulness while doing something creative. I also have a major sweet tooth, so that probably has something to do with it.

SEVEN WHAT'S THE PROJECT YOU ARE WORKING ON NOW THAT YOU ARE MOST EXCITED ABOUT?
I’m working on an abstract mother-child portrait for a beautiful family. This is a newer commission-based series I’ve started and I’m excited to see where it goes.

EIGHT
WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU WOULD LIKE TO Do OR WHERE IS A PLACE YOU WANT TO VISIT Post Covid times?
Greece is at the top of my list, but my heart is always in Italy. Even though I’ve been many times since I first studied abroad there during college, it’s been too long since my last visit. I’m itching to get back to Florence, Amalfi, the Dolomites. I miss art museums near and far and look forward to visiting my favorites like The Barnes Museum soon.

NINE IS THERE SOMETHING YOU WANT TO PROMOTE?
@_StillWeRise teams with artists and designers to raise money for causes like The Equal Justice Initiative, No Kid Hungry, RAICES and more all on Instagram. @repaint.history is another amazing IG find supporting female artists past and present. Check them out!

TEN WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PIECE OF CAREER ADVICE?
You’ll never know if you don’t try. It applies to making art, taking a chance in business and putting yourself out there in general.
