Thank you for the beautiful response to my autumn guide to Newport I posted yesterday. And a huge thank you to Shannon Hammond for sharing her incredible photos to accompany my little post. She really sees this town in the most lovely way. Read the blog here for a bit of fall inspiration of your own.

I was thrilled to read Simone Yvette Leigh was announced to represent the United States at the Venice Biennale in 2022. She is the first Black woman to be named as such. Her sculptural pieces are stunning and I cannot wait to see what she has in store for the Biennale. See more about Simone Yvette Leigh and her work here and here.

Early and in-person voting is open in Rhode Island and although I have never voted early before, yesterday I mailed in my absentee ballot and it was super easy. I encourage you to vote in whatever capacity you can. If you need info on local candidates in the Newport area WhatsUpNewp.com did a great job providing interviews and questionnaires with those in the running.
As some of you know, I’ve been busy between bringing in new work to the gallery alongside tons of gifts perfect for giving and for getting this coming holiday season and working on a big interiors project. I always laugh when people ask me if Newport is quiet after the summer. Not really! I think to myself and certainly not this season. I can’t wait to share so many of the announcements I’m about to make to get us all in the mood for a little holiday cheer and beyond, but for now, here's the Fall Refresh happening in the store, beware, it's a lot!

Speaking of holiday. One of my favorite gifts I’ve given (and look forward to giving again!) is a custom carved stone from local artisan Hope Benson. These little (and in some cases larger) masterpieces have just the right personal touch and carry on a Newport tradition of stone carving from the workshop of the John Stevens Shop. Hope is now offering her carved stone pieces through her Instagram account and there is still time to order yours for the holidays. See some of her work here and to place orders you can message her through Instagram or email her here.
It is with a heavy heart I share the sad news of community member, Jhamal Gonsalves, 24, who suffered a serious moped accident last weekend that made national news and has left Jhamal in a coma. I don’t know Jhamal or his family personally, but I do feel for them. His friends have set up a fundraiser to help with medical bills. If you are in a position to give, even if it's a few dollars, here is a link to the page to do so.
